My name is Caryn and I am the groomer at Rock River Pet Resort. I am certified to groom in all 50 states and licensed by the state of Iowa. I unofficially began my grooming career almost 20 years ago, while volunteering at the Tulsa, OK SPCA. I have been certified and licensed for the past 10 years as a groomer in good standing. Originally, I am from Oklahoma, relocating to Waverly 12 years ago for work. My true passion has always been animals, specifically dogs, and I have had a canine companion since I was about three. Despite having a bachelor and master's degree in a different field, grooming and loving dogs is where I am meant to be!

A blueberry facial is a safe way to thoroughly wash your dog's face and an excellent way to get rid of tear stains. This enhances the coat's color naturally, while providing a calming, aromatherapeutic experience for your dog and is safe for your dog's face and eyes. If done regularly, the dog's face will become fluffier and stay clean longer.
While a nail trim cuts the dog's nails shorter, it tends to leave them sharp. A grind is similar to filing the nail. It smooths the edges to avoid scratching.
The grooming process can be stressful for many dogs. We want the process to be a positive experience for the dog, as grooming will always be a part of their lives. For this reason, our groomer allows breaks for each dog in between the bathing, drying, cutting, etc. as to avoid overwhelming the dog. Your dog is given potty breaks and water throughout the day as well.
We also allow the dog's coat to dry fully. We pride ourselves on providing our customers with the best quality grooming option. Grooming of all the day’s dogs also takes planning and shifts to accomplish the bathing, drying, and table work. For these reasons we cannot predict a specific time that each dog will be completed.
Our highest priority is to put every dog’s comfort and health above all else. In the event that your pet’s coat is matted, the groomer may have to shave the matts out, rather than perform a painful dematting procedure. Matted pets take additional time to groom so there will be an additional fee added onto the regular grooming price if the pet’s coat is matted. Certain dogs' with fur, rather than hair, can result in permanent damage to the hair cuticle and cause the fur to grow back differently, which is why it is so important that you brush your dog well at least every other day. Our groomer can recommend brushes and combs and provide tips for brushing at home.
Not at all! Just come before we close at 6pm and they can hang out with us until you are able to stop by
Good Equipment- You will need a gentle slicker brush and a metal comb with a combination of wide and thin-spaced teeth (both of which we have for sale at our facility).
Work Surface - The floor is your pet's playground and should be used as a last resort for brushing. A sturdy top such as a washer, dryer or table is a great working height for you and a working space for your pet.
Mats, Tangles and Burrs - Should be worked slowly and carefully in small sections. Begin with a wide-toothed comb and then move to the thin side once it easily passes through the fur. Be cautious to not inflict any pain to the pet, and in extreme cases should be left to the professional.
Starting - Start Start with the slicker brush at the head of the pet and work your way down to the tail. Be sure not to forget the hips, elbows, and tummy as they are key matting points. Repeat with the metal comb.
The time between grooming can vary greatly among different dogs, depending on several variables such as coat condition, coat type, density, climate, texture, and time spent grooming at home. If you simply do not have the time or desire to brush your pet at home, bring your pet in more frequently. If you would like to come in as little as possible and brush your pet at home, you can wait longer for your next visit. On average, every pet should be groomed every 4-6 weeks.
